About Marla

Marla began her journey into vegetarianism in 2015 and quickly made the transition to veganism shortly after attending a live animal auction. She began privately rescuing farm animals and turning her backyard into a small sanctuary. In 2017, The Riley Farm Rescue was incorporated as a non-profit and then a 501c3. Marla was working as an ICU nurse during this time while attending school to obtain her Masters of Science in Nursing and Masters of Business Administration. She graduated with honors with a dual Masters in 2018. The farm continued to grow with support of many donors and the need for a larger space was clear. On August 8, 2019, the farm purchased a 26 acre farm property located in Canterbury, CT. Shortly thereafter, Marla made the decision to give up her career path and work part time to allow more focus on the farm and most importantly time with the animals. She hopes to spread the message of veganism through the animals stories.
